Billy Idol Shares How Came Up with the LP Title 'Rebel Yell'

Billy Idol marked the 40th anniversary of his second album, 1983's Rebel Yell, by releasing a deluxe edition on Friday.

Included in this reissue are eight unreleased tracks, including his cover of Rose Royce's "Love Don't Live Here Anymore," plus:

  • "Best Way Out of Here"
  • "Daytime Drama" (Demo)
  • "Flesh for Fantasy" (Demo)
  • "Catch My Fall" (Early Version)
  • "Crank Call" (Demo)
  • "(Do Not) Stand in the Shadows" (Demo)
  • "Eyes Without a Face" (Poolside remix)

Idol tells us he came up with the album title at a party thrown by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood when they both lived in New York.

And even though the Stones were just enjoying a drink, Billy wanted to make sure they were okay with his using that title.

And he adds that it was really about one woman in particular, his then girlfriend, dancer Perri Lister.

Idol and his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens will celebrate the album's release with an acoustic set atop the Empire State Building in New York City on tomorrow night. It's then off to perform at SunFest in West Palm Beach, Florida on May 3rd, followed by the Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta on May 5th.
